In a statement by its spokesman, Binebai Princewill, the IYC criticized the current pricing of cement, attributing part of the issue to monopolistic practices by some producers who have used their government connections to eliminate competition in the Niger Delta region. This, according to Princewill, has made life more difficult for the people, calling the situation a "political monopolization" that needs to be addressed.

The IYC is warning of potential actions against cement manufacturers in the coming days, emphasizing that the peaceful demeanor of the council should not be taken for granted amidst the unbearable living conditions faced by the Ijaw and Niger Delta people. The council's spokesman also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to address the deteriorating living conditions and warned of a possible "mother of all protests" if the current economic challenges, including inflation and hunger, are not adequately addressed.
