Peruvian company Unión Andina de Cementos (Unacem) has continued to strengthen its position in the Chilean market by acquiring two new concrete plants in Talca and San Antonio.

This move comes in the midst of a crisis in the cement industry in Chile, which has led to significant measures such as plant closures and workforce reductions by major firms. The acquisition, valued at US$1 million, will bring Unacem Chile's total number of concrete plants to 12, in addition to its two cement factories.

The company, which is part of the Rizo Patrón family business group, first entered the Chilean market in 2018 with the purchase of Hormigones Independencia from Cementos Polpaico.

Unacem has invested around US$100 million in the country and currently operates in seven cities, with plans to further increase its presence in the coming years.
