In a notable effort to address the escalating cost of cement in Nigeria, Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, alongside Senator Aminu Tambuwal, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing, toured the newly established fifth plant of BUA Cement located in Sokoto State. This visit is part of a broader inspection, including the examination of a 372 km dual roadway stretching from Sokoto to Zaria in Kaduna State. During their visit, Umahi called on BUA Cement's management to consider reducing the market prices of cement, highlighting the government's determination to stabilize the Naira and mitigate the rising expenses of essential commodities, including cement.

President Bola Tinubu, showing concern for the increasing prices, has already issued a directive to cement manufacturers to revert to previous pricing, aiming to support massive housing programs and the national agenda for concrete roads. Umahi's encouragement for compliance with the President's directive reflects the government's commitment to affordability in the housing sector and infrastructure development.

Senator Tambuwal lauded the government's collaboration with BUA Cement, emphasizing its critical role in bridging the housing gap in Nigeria. He expressed optimism that this partnership would significantly contribute to the Federal Government’s affordable housing initiative.

Yusuf Binji, the Managing Director of BUA, reassured that the inauguration of the fifth plant would enhance daily cement production and, in turn, help in reducing the product's market price. According to Binji, the new facility will increase production by 165 trucks daily, promising a positive impact on market prices.
