CEMEX, a global building materials supplier, has partnered with Orcan Energy to implement a waste heat recovery system at its Rüdersdorf cement plant in Germany.

The project is a significant milestone in CEMEX's efforts to achieve carbon neutrality at the plant by 2030. The waste heat recovery system will use part of the waste heat potential of the clinker cooler gases for electricity generation, with a heat exchanger installed in the pipeline downstream of the clinker cooler filter. The system will heat water and feed it to six ORC modules for electricity generation.

The project is expected to contribute significantly to achieving energy-related emissions savings before 2030, and it is a testament to the value of expert alliances in implementing innovative technologies for decarbonization.Sergio Menendez, President of CEMEX Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia, commented on the project, stating, "Efforts to achieve carbon neutrality at our Rüdersdorf cement plant by 2030 continue apace, and this project to install a waste heat recovery system is the latest significant milestone in our journey.

It further demonstrates the value of forming expert alliances to investigate and then implement innovative technologies that will ensure the decarbonization of our operation." The project is a testament to CEMEX's commitment to sustainability and its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
