Sampyo Cement is embarking on a significant journey towards environmental sustainability by investing 140 billion won in high-efficiency environmental facilities. This investment aims to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the global push towards '2050 carbon neutrality'. The company's initiative involves increasing the use of circular resources instead of fossil fuels, a major contributor to carbon emissions.

As part of its commitment to carbon neutrality, Sampyo Cement has been actively participating in the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy's key technology development project for carbon-neutral industries since last year. The company is focusing on developing technologies to reduce the use of bituminous coal in kilns by substituting it with waste synthetic resins, thereby increasing the use of waste synthetic resins. Additionally, Sampyo Cement is investing in long-term research for chlorine dust treatment technology, a byproduct of industrial processes.

This proactive approach is in response to the government's '2050 carbon neutrality' policy, requiring the cement industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 12% by 2030 and 53% by 2050 compared to 2018 levels. In 2022, Sampyo Cement managed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 5.73 million tons through fuel conversion and the production of eco-friendly mixed cement, marking a 3.12% decrease from the previous year's emissions.

Looking forward, Sampyo Cement aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 22% by 2030, planning to replace 64% of fossil fuels and 7% of limestone. The company also intends to expand the production of eco-friendly mixed cement by 22%. By 2050, the goal is to reduce emissions by 54%, achieve a 12% limestone substitution rate, develop new heat source technologies, and increase eco-friendly mixed cement production by 40%.

Sampyo Cement's efforts to utilize waste as a resource for raw and fuel materials significantly contribute to national energy and environmental policies, enhancing profitability and sustainability.
