The United States Department of Energy awarded Electrified Thermal Solutions (ETS) a $5 million grant to advance the development of sustainable technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in industries such as manufacturing, cement production, food processing, and chemicals.

Alongside industrial partners including 3M, Buzzi Unicem USA, and Amy’s Kitchen, ETS received the grant to construct and operate the first commercial-scale pilot of its Joule Hive thermal battery (JHTB). The project will take place in collaboration with Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) at their industrial demonstration facilities in San Antonio, Texas. Once deployed, these JHTB systems will integrate into the operational sites of partners like 3M, Buzzi Unicem, and Amy’s Kitchen, contributing to significant reductions in industrial greenhouse gas emissions.

The Joule Hive Thermal Battery, initially developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), aims to provide a highly efficient, zero-carbon alternative for producing, storing, and delivering emissions-free heat derived from clean energy sources.
