In recognition of World Energy Efficiency Day, Holcim Colombia unveiled its involvement in various global and local initiatives focused on achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

These initiatives span decarbonization projects, circular economy practices, low-carbon products, and cutting-edge technology aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability. Notably, Holcim is progressing on a solar farm project for its Nobsa cement plant in Boyacá, aiming to substitute about 10% of its electrical energy needs with solar power by 2025.

This effort is part of a broader strategy to incorporate 100% renewable energy in its operations, significantly reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to the country's environmental goals.

The strategy encompasses decarbonization projects, circular economy practices, low-carbon products, intelligent design, sustainable transportation, cutting-edge environmentally friendly technology, thermal substitution, and even artificial intelligence.

Presently, two of Holcim's facilities in Colombia operate on 100% renewable energy, derived from hydroelectric and solar sources, preventing the annual emission of 21,775 tons of CO2 and significantly reducing the organization's carbon footprint from electrical energy use.

The company is also an active participant in local and national initiatives aimed at boosting energy efficiency and environmental performance, including founding the Regional Emission Reduction Mechanism Association (MRRE) to position Boyacá as the first net-zero department in Colombia.
